No. 8 Ellen Pompeo

The Grey’s Anatomy actress boasts one of the highest per-episode salaries among women on U.S. television. She pulled in an estimated $275,000 an episode on the eighth season show, and should see a considerable jump in salary for seasons nine and 10, which she committed to in May. She also earns a pretty penny on old episodes of the series, which is highly syndicated. Off-camera, Pompeo has launched her own production company, Calamity Jane, which sold its first project to ABC; according to imdb the untitled project is about diplomatic secret service agents.Total earnings: $9 million.

We still have no clue if all our favorite doctors will make it to the Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 premiere alive, but we’re still excited to hear about brand new characters who will be scrubbing in next season.

TVLine reveals that showrunner Shonda Rhimes is busy casting four new roles, in addition to the pretty patient we reported on earlier.

Since Seattle Grace-Mercy West is missing so many of its top physicians after the Medical Boards exodus, Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) death, Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand injury, and April’s (Sarah Drew) firing, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and his dwindling staff need to start hiring new superstar docs.

Up for positions are Dr. Parker, “a top-of-his-game physician in his 40s or 50s, and Dr. Mel Barnett, who’s slightly younger.” In addition, “Seattle Grace is also looking for two medical professionals” who will be cast as “a man and a woman who are ‘smart’ and ‘not Hollywood handsome/pretty.’”

Already, we’re worried for our favorite ‘ships. What if Cristina, in typical Cristina (Sandra Oh) fashion, falls for the brilliant older physician? And what if Derek starts to resent one of these new surgeons when he sees Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) working with them?

Stay strong, shippers!

Ellen is mentioned briefly but I thought you’d all like all the latest for Grey’s Anatomy Season 9.

With the departures of Teddy (Kim Raver) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) from “Grey’s Anatomy,” we knew that there were going to need to be some new faces to take their place at Seattle Grace — especially when you remember that there is no guarantee that they are the only ones saying goodbye at the moment.

According to a report from TVLine, there are currently four new characters that Shonda Rhimes is looking to bring into the show’s universe early on during season 9:

-Dr. Parker, a man described as a top-notch physician in his 40s or 50s

-Dr. Mel Barnett, whose only real description at the moment is that they are younger than Dr. Parker

-Two “medical professionals,” one male and one female, who are supposed to look like everyday people rather than Hollywood actors and actresses

So how will all four of these new faces receive ample screen time? It’s possible that Rhimes could be looking to give the show even more of an ensemble feel to lighten the load of Ellen Pompeo and some of the leads, or she may just be deciding to replace two characters (or three, if someone else from the plane crash dies) with four. We’re not really sure which is the case as of yet, but from a hospital standpoint it would make sense for them to bring in new faces under the thinking that many of the residents were going to leave after the board exams.

The expectation is that these four characters will be introduced at least fairly early on in the new season following its premiere in September — otherwise, we wouldn’t be hearing about them just yet.

Are there any names out there that you would love to see as a part of the “Grey’s Anatomy” universe? To talk more about some of the characters who are currently a part of the cast, be sure to check out our recent debate about Callie and Arizona.

I have added Ellen’s appearance in Grey’s Anatomy 1.09 Who’s Zoomin’ Who to the gallery.  Despite the fact that Addison showed up and put a spanner in the works of Meredith and Derek, I really like Addison, Kate played her so well that you just couldn’t hate her, no matter how badly you wanted to!
